Who Are Those Guys?
We are passionate about the American West. The truth and the myth. We are Purveyors of Fine Western Goods. We scout for unique and distinctive apparel, accessories, home décor, and general merchandise that are a reflection of Western lifestyle. We hunt for artisans and craftsmen who are inspired, to create “decorative art you can wear” based on their own love for the story of the West. We round it up and bring it to you.

As husband and wife, we have more than 50 years of retail experience in apparel, accessories, home décor, and jewelry. For several years Bobbi Jean was on staff at the Autry National Center of the American West working directly with visitors and curatorial staff.  During her years there she was involved in the operation of Visitor Services and the Museum Store. She never stopped learning and appreciating the history and culture of the American West. The Autry National Center's collections are world class and the exhibits spellbinding.

In the store she encouraged visitors to try on, touch, and feel items that were similar to the ones on display. Feel the warmth of a capote (blanket coat) or weight of a mountain man buckskin coat, try on an exquisite Bohlin or Silver King buckle, don a handsomely embroidered shirt like Gene or Roy wore, sweep on a fringed fancy dance shawl or slip on a fabulous turquoise necklace similar to the ones in the museum's Native American collection and be transported to another time and place.

The years at the Autry Museum exposed us to the complicated, compelling, and engaging history of the West and we found that this was our life's calling. Hence, OutWest was born! Launched in late 2007 as an on-line Western boutique, then with a "by appointment only" charming location in Pasadena, and finally on the National Day of the Cowboy 2009 we opened our new  "brick and mortar" store in Old Town Newhall.

Located on the Walk of Western Stars and just up the street from Santa Clarita's two major historical landmarks, The William S. Hart Park and Museum and the Santa Clarita Historical Society, we feel right at home!

Supporters of Live Music Events and Western Music
Our love for Western music runs deep. OutWest hosts live in-store music events on a regular basis. Award winning musicians Eli Barsi and Joni Harms, and poet Doris Daley kicked off  The OutWest Concert Series in 2009.

Taking the stage in 2010 we were honored to host a wide variety of performers including The Driftwood Reunion Band, Skeeter Mann and the Lost Canyon Rangers, Nathan McEuen with Scott Gates, Women on the Move Trio, Gary Allegretto, Juni Fisher, Eli Barsi, Jason "Buck" Corbett, John Bergstrom, Richard Lee Cody and Mary Kaye, and Ray Doyle.  Many of these concerts were filmed by our local cable channel SCVTV and you can watch these fun, intimate concert events from our ON THE AIR page, or go direct to  SCVTV Presents The OutWest Concert Series. From there, choose the concert you want to watch from the drop down menu.

One of the musical highlights of 2010 was the live performance and new CD Release Party of our good friends The Tumbling Tumbleweeds. They called OutWest their "official sponsor and outfitters," when named winners of the 2008 Academy of Western Artists Western Music Duo/ Group of the Year and the Western Music Association's 2008 Crescendo Award honoring new talent. Pick up their first CD, The Tumbling Tumbleweeds, or newest one Blaze Across the West to enjoy this terrific, exciting Western group! Catch their live performance on SCVTV or from our On The Air page.

Community Partner of Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival
You may have met us "on the road" as we take our store and set up at major Western events like the upcoming  2011 Buckaroo Book Shop at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival.  (Photo to the right is from 2009 with authors Petrine Mitchum, Holly George-Warren and Western designer Amy Hoban.) Check out our calendar of outreach events, interviews, and in-store events on the OutWest Events page. Community and Non-Profit Supporters
We firmly believe in supporting museums and organizations that keep the history and stories of the West alive. Among our memberships of the William S. Hart Ranch and Museum, and Bobbi Jean is a member of the Board of the Friends Of Hart Park. Other memberships include The Autry National Center, The Western Music Association (WMA), and SASS (Single Action Shooting Society).

We believe in supporting community groups and local non-profit organizations. OutWest contributes "Buckaroo Bucks" gift certificates and gift baskets to a wide variety of fund raisers throughout the Santa Clarita Valley and is a member of several trade groups including our local Old Town Newhall Association. A major supporter of the First Thursday Art Walk, we look for new ways to encourage tourism to our newly redeveloping community, Old Town Newhall.
