Here it is lavishly depicted on a lush jewel-like green heart. Alive with butterflies, geckos, bees, doves, cardinals, lady bugs, dragon flies, and hummingbirds it is a testimony to the richness of life in the West. Every branch is abloom with flower blossoms. Hummingbird
Did you know that hummingbirds were unknown in Europe until discovered by Spanish explorers in the New World? Inspired by their colorful plumage the Spanish gave them imaginative names like aves varias and joyas voladores. New England colonists, taken by the sound of their wings, were the first to call them hummingbirds. Native to the Americas, they originated in northwestern South America, then spread north into Central and North America. Today in the United States, the largest number of species are found in the mountains of western Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The hummingbird, gracing this lovely glass ornament, is just like the ones we see every day on our patio! His body is articulated in shades of green with lovely fuchsia and red wings. He is captured in flight, just about to take a long drink from the red blossom at his feet. Oval in shape, it measures 3.5” wide by 4” tall. Nestled in red gift box. Handcrafted in Poland. Cross with Milagros
In Spanish, the word milagro has several meanings including miracle or surprise. Religious folk charms, they come in a variety of shapes including legs, arms, hearts, and hands. They might be attached to a sacred object, as these milagros are attached to the cross, or they might be carried or worn for protection and good luck. Each milagros may have different meanings – for instance- a leg might refer to travel, walking, or represent a prayer request for healing of arthritis or a broken bone. The use of milagros is a folk custom, traceable to the early Spanish inhabitants of the Southwest that continues today.
The milagros depicted on this ornament are painted in gold, a material often used. They appear to be attached to a black cross, mounted on a silver cross. The reverse side is identical. 3.5” tall by 3” wide. Nestled in a red gift box. Handcrafted in Poland. Purchase additional items for $85 and receive free shipping.

*Dia de los Muertos, translates as the Day of the Dead, is a national holiday in Mexico and celebrated throughout the Southwest and California. Celebrated on All Saints' Day, (November 1) and All Soul's Day (November 2) its celebrants joyfully honor the lives of the deceased and embrace the belief that death is not the end but the beginning of a new stage of life. Families honor their deceased loved ones by decorating their graves with orange marigolds and, in their homes, crafting altars dedicated to their lives. |
