From Singer/Songwriter Mary Kaye's Blog:
"I feel so happy as phone calls, letters and emails come in with folks telling me how much they are enjoying my brand new CD "The Real Thing."  The highest compliment so far is from a gentleman in Arizona who said, "I don't know what makes it so special...it's like God is in it."

There is an interesting story around how this CD came about.  In 2007 I had started singing karaoke songs around town with a friend of mine.  I had just had the tenth of my ten children.  I remember that at one of my first paid gigs I actually carried my infant baby in a front carrier as I sang.  It was that year on my birthday that my friend talked me into buying a guitar.

I Googled the basic chords and set to work making my fingers do the musical gymnastics involved in doing a 3 chord progression.  It was like turning on a faucet.  Songs starting coming and I started forcing myself to stumble through a few live songs every time I performed.  They
were songs about family, mothers, fathers, and God.  Pretty soon I had saved a small amount of money from my singing jobs to record some of my music.

Studio guitarist, Michael Dowdle, put his magic fingers to work and I was able to lay down 8 tracks for my first "Real Thing" CD.  My girlfriend, Chantelle, took some pictures of me out in the barnyard in the red dress I made for my oldest daughters wedding.  We printed the pic on the CD and sold it without liner notes in a slim-line case.

It was that first 8-track CD that caught the attention of Mike Kirkwood, the Moab Western Stars organizer.  He called me and said, "Hey, how would you like to come sing at a western music festival?"  I said, "I don't have any cowboy music."  He said, "I think the folks that come will like you."

I met Hans and Kathy Schmoldt that weekend.  Kathy is elegant and refined.  Hans is spontaneous and intense.  They love good music and wanted to help finish "The Real Thing" so the three of us took a memorable trip to Nashville in June to work at Duane Sciacqua's studio with some of the best studio musicians in Nashville.  It was nothing short of magical.

Brad and I spent the better part of the last few months here in Utah to wrap up the CD with mixing, adding additional instrumentation, and design work...all of which involved more marital arguments than I care to admit.  It has been hard work and we have made many sacrifices, but we just know down in our very souls that this music will bless people lives.

I got a phone call just yesterday from a woman who said, "I love this CD.  It speaks about all the things that are dear to me."  That one phone call alone makes it all worth it.  It will be fun to watch the story of "The Real Thing" continue as it goes out into the world to do what it's meant to do...bless people's lives."
