The above image is titled "If They Could Only Talk". The original oil painting was completed by Al Shelton in 1961. The photo of Al was taken at the Autry National Center.
The above fine art Giclee print shows a cowboy's well worn boots and hat along with an original poem by Al that give the artifacts a voice.
What stories they could tell!
About the cattle round-ups,
Or the dried up well.
An' the broncos in the morning,
That'll buck you just for fun.
At nite you pull them off again,
Another day is done....
-Al Shelton, 1961
Al Shelton loves horses and most everything that is related to them. In fact, Al was a cowboy & horse breaker in Colorado and the surrounding states in the 1930's & 1940's. Al has a special gift with horses and was able to tame them for domestic use with good success. However, more than one spirited horse crossed Al's path during that time and he has many fond memories of these experiences.
