The image of the humpbacked flute player, known as Kokopelli, is another endearing icon of the West. Images of this ancient deity are found throughout the southwestern United States, especially in the Four Corners area on the Colorado Plateau. Kokopelli is more than a flute player, as a fertility symbol he is welcomed during corn-planting season. Also known as a trickster and seducer, he is the central character in traditional stories and songs of the peoples of the southwest. Here he is dressed in turquoise with black and gold details.
