Everyone knows the legend of the shootout at the OK Corral where the Earp clan, along with Doc Holliday, defeated the Clantons. This legend has been told in films, books, and even a TV show, but what happened after the OK Corral in the lives of the Earps is an unwritten bit of local history.

The Earps kept the peace in Tombstone for only two years, then they spent the rest of their lives largely in San Bernardino County. In our area of the world Virgil Earp ran a Whist club in the mining town of Vanderbilt. He also did assaying work, some say that he applied that trade at Calico for a while. The Earp Clan: The Southern California Years focuses on the family's years in and around San Bernardino County after the brothers' time in Tombstone.

About the Author:
A native of Somerville, New Jersey, Nick Cataldo has made San Bernardino, California, his home since the age of 12 in 1966. A graduate of California State University in San Bernardino has has been a special education teacher in the San Bernardino area since 1978. Over the years, Cataldo has written local history articles for several publications; is the author of Images of America: San Bernardino, Arcadia Publishing 2002. He co-authored a book on the Earp family, entitled The Earps of San Bernardino County, San Bernardino Historical and Pioneer Society, 2002. He currently writes a bi-weekly local history column for the San Bernardino Sun.
