To attend a devotional celebration for La Virgen is an unforgettable experience. Whether in a massive cathedral in Mexico City or following a procession of villagers in New Mexico of the Andes the feeling of love is palpable. Known by a myriad of names, including La Guadalupana and La Morenita, devotion to La Virgen represent prayers answered for everything from healing and safe journeys to finding work.

One way the faithful pay back the debt is with music. And a the heart of the music is always the guitar. Musical styles range from tunes that hark back to Aztec and Indian melodies to the distinctive guitar music of Spain. But the various guitar styles share two important elements- a special joyfulness and reverence for La Virgen.

This CD brings you to the heart of La Virgen's celebrations. You'll go everywhere from musicians playing "Las Manaitas" to La Virgen de Guadalupe on a cold December morning in South Texas to a melody played by pilgrims in 14th century Spain on the vihuela, the guitar's ancestor.
