WAGON TRAIN A group of post Civil War settlers make their way through the American landscape towards California, finding peril, heartbreak and redemption in the untamed frontier. Beginning in 1957, "Wagon Train" aired for eight seasons, with each episode focusing on a particular character. The three episodes on this disc are taken from the fifth and sixth seasons (1959-60).
Episode 1 - Alias Bill Hawks:Assistant wagon master Bill Hawks makes an excursion to a desert town in search of an old friend. Upon arrival, he finds the man's property under the control of the townspeople, who are using the land to drill for precious water. Greeted with hostility, and given no decent explanation for the whereabouts of his Native American friend, Hawks begins to suspect some sort of conspiracy.
Episode 2 - The Doctor Denker Story:The wagon train encounters a terrified boy who has just witnessed the murder of his father by a group of marauders. Young Billy is taken in by Bill Hawks and Flint, who endeavor to help him recover from his trauma. Bitter Civil War veteran Ed Beaufort attempts to help the boy by preaching the power of vengeance. After welcoming traveling musicologist Dr. Denker to the group, it seems Billy may have found an outlet for his grief in the joy of music; but when his true connection to Dr. Denker comes to light, Beaufort's belief in revenge may win out.
Episode 3 - The Malachai Hobart Story:Duke has a chance meeting with Malachai Hobart, a man of God who preaches kindness and brotherly love. Parting ways with a glowing opinion of the charitable preacher, Duke soon learns that he is actually a con man using religious faith as a way to bilk believers out of money.
Product Description: A much-travelled wagon train is the unlikely star of this television series, which originally aired in 1957. A variety of stars saddled-up and took the reigns of the cranky vehicle as it creaked slowly through the perilous landscape of the Old West, including Robert Horton, John McIntire, Ward Bond, and many others. Each week featured the story of a different traveller on board the faithful old train, with actors such as Bette Davis, Leslie Nielsen, and Lee Marvin making appearances. Included here are three episodes from the show.
FURY "Fury" originally ran on Saturday mornings on NBC from 1955 to 1960. The stallion Fury (trained by Ralph McCutcheon) became an award-winning star that appeared in other TV shows and movies, and was the subject of spin-off books, games, and puzzles.
Episode 1: Included in this collection is the rare pilot episode, "Fury of Broken Wheel Ranch," where we meet the orphan Joey (Bobby Diamond) who is taken in by widower, Jim Newton (Peter Graves). Jim owns a wild stallion called Fury that none of his ranch hands can tame - except young Joey! When the stallion is injured by one of the ranchers, Joey runs away to help the wounded steed. Jim and his friend Helen (Ann Robinson, of George Pal's "War of the Worlds") find them in the nick of time, saving Fury's life. Jim adopts Joey as his son, and so begins a lifetime of adventure for Fury at the Broken Wheel Ranch!
Episode 2: A stranger arrives claiming to be Joey's real father, threatening to separate the boy from Fury. Jim must act quickly to stop the imposter.
Episode 3: After a rabid dog bites Joey in the schoolyard, Jim and Fury must race against time to get him treatment.
Episode 4: When Fury is smitten by a white mare, young Joey's jealousy gets the better of him, and he lets the horses escape into the wild! With Helen's help, Joey brings them back!
Product Description: FURY was a popular western TV series that ran from 1955 -1960. It followed the adventures of a young boy named Joey, an orphan brought to court for breaking a window. A local rancher named Jim Newton, who had recently lost his wife and child in a car accident involving a drunk driver, cleared Joey of the charges, and convinced the judge to let the boy come live with him at his Broken Wheel Ranch. There, Joey befriends a wild stallion named Fury, who has up to this point let no one ride him. Joey, however, shares a special bond with the horse, and the two embark upon plenty of adventures, along with Joey's pals Pee Wee and Packy. The four episodes collected here provide heartwarming, timeless entertainment that the whole family can enjoy.
THE ADVENTURES OF KIT CARSON Legendary western hero Kit Carson and his dependable side-kick, El Toro, ride from one dangerous situation to the next, always fighting for truth and justice. Bill Williams, who had a long film and TV career in westerns, crime dramas and science fiction, plays the upright scout Carson with rugged believability. The role of Kit's girl-crazy Mexican pal is humorously handled by Don Diamond, who later played Cpl. Reyes in the "Zorro" series (1957-1959) and Crazy Cat in "F Troop" (1965) before lending his voice to a series of animated cartoon characters. "The Adventures of Kit Carson" is an early rough-riding treasure from the golden age of TV westerns that brought iconic shows like "The Lone Ranger," "The Cisco Kid," "Roy Rogers" and "Wild Bill Hickok" to small screens across America.
Claim Jumpers: A crooked assayer hires claim jumpers to shoot an old gold prospector in an effort to drive him from his "million dollar" vein.
Outlaw Paradise: An outlaw disguised as Kit murders a judge who once sent him to prison, and the real Kit Carson is wrongly accused of the killing.
Fury at Red Gulch: A newspaper editor's anti-gambling crusade turns deadly when a sheriff is murdered and the editor is framed for the crime.
Danger Hill: A gold strike in the local schoolyard leads to a violent standoff between a young schoolmarm and a gang of greedy townsfolk.
Production Description: First airing on American television in the early 1950s, the western series THE ADVENTURES OF KIT CARSON followed the thrilling adventures of Kit Carson and his Mexican partner El Toro in their pursuit of justice and women. Bill Williams plays Kit Carson, while Don Diamond plays his goofy pal. During its run, the series fell into the same category as other TV westerns such as "Roy Rogers," "The Cisco Kid," and "The Lone Ranger."
