An Anthology of Western Stories, Poetry, Articles and Artwork from the Authors and Artists Who Know the West.
We have so many great writers in this anthology, it’s hard to pare it down to the few names. Dusty Richards needs no introduction; he’s legendary in the world of Westerns. He’s also a true cowboy with the heart and integrity of the best of them. Jory Sherman is another legend who has published too many books and stories to count. Max McCoy is an award-winning writer who’s wowed many Hollywood great with his skill. Johnny Boggs writes like the cowboys, miners, ranchers and lawmen used to desert heat and experience the whispers and the ghosts of the Old West.
And when we think of Westerns we think of John Wayne and his most memorable character, Rooster Cogburn. We’re delighted to publish a story by Rooster Cogburn’s great-grandson, Brett. A cowboy all his life, and a writer since the age of eleven, Brett is the real deal. John Nesbitt deftly weaves a story you won’t forget, and Cotton Smith is another legend among western readers and writers. I tried to figure the total amount of Spur Awards and Cowboy Hall of Fame inductees among these authors and got lost somewhere around 50. Cactus Country appreciates the opportunity to showcase their work and we hope we did the proud.
I don't want to forget future Spur winners we've featured in our first anthology. They are writers with talent. Some are beginning their careers, while others are getting their breaks as we go to press. I'm sure we'll see more of them in the future. And like the picture on the cover says...It's a Great Day To Be A Cowboy.
Review:
Ace’s Colt by
{>} Troy Andrew Smith is featured on page 302. It’s a story about a ‘not so gentle’ horse. When you find yourself caught up in the story, you may think it sounds like Troy Andrew Smith may be writing from personal experience; well he is. Enjoy.
