Meet Artist Bob Hernandez
                                                                                                       
A Bit of History about the Artist:

Bob Hernandez has always been a person who enjoys challenges, big or small and takes them on with great passion. As a California Institute of the Arts student and graduate Bob took great joy in discovering his unique gifts as an artist, designer and later in his career as a communicator of ideas and vision.

 Bob has been a Design Director at KCBS, Fox Sports Network, Telemundo and has directed teams of creative people.

With his own company, Bob Hernandez Design, he lead creative teams in formulating ideas and producing projects for such companies as IBM, Time Warner, Simon and Schuster, NBC, and The NFL.

 The teaching bug hit years later, and Bob got an opportunity to take on the position of Associate professor at Cal State Northridge, teaching design and experimental film. Soon after multimedia craze hit and both illustration and design talents began to flourish.

 His multi-media work on The Amazon Jungle and Animals of the world has been on display at The Smithsonian Institute.

Experimenting with all art media has been Bob’s way of communicating his creative ideas, soft pastels has been his latest medium used, especially with subject matter such as blues music. The vibrant colors of this medium allow expression of this wonderful music form, and sets the mood for communicating the essence of the music.

Bob’s latest endevour is working with community leaders as President of The ARTree Community Arts Center, it is his vision to see Santa Clarita transformed into a vibrant community that supports and nurtures the arts for people of all ages.

Though Bob has won an Emmy, and various National and International awards during his career, Bob confesses that his true joy is seeing children or adults face at the moment they create something.

One of our favorite pieces of Bob's is his Mexican Folk Art piece we've called "The Hand." He has illustrated this colorful piece with the saying Mothers worldwide are known for:
"Tell me who you're with and I'll tell you who you are." Enjoy just one hour at Bob's side and you'll find out who he is by the company he keeps. A man of remarkable Vision, Talent, and Dreams. Counselor. Artist. Designer. Enthusiast for the Arts and its Champion for he knows, first hand, the positive effect it has on lives both young and old. Man of Faith. Man of Action. Husband, Father, Brother, Teacher. ...we are honored to call him FRIEND.

Bob has been a supporter of OutWest's, when we were on-line only and were dreaming of a storefront. We met at Art Tank meetings, led by Jeff Barber of the City's Arts and Events staff. Bob caught our vision and helped us look for space. OutWest is in the very space that Bob considered for an art gallery. He urged us to pursue it. It is our home today. He was our first featured artist and has been part of every art event we've organized. We have spent hours over countless cups of Mavericks coffee dreaming our dreams of art in Old Town Newhall.  One year later, The ARTree Community Arts Center is well on its way and OutWest continues to bring live music, art, and authors to Old Town Newhall. Well done, Bob!

Bob is a man who walks the talk and has a heart for bringing every budding artist to full flower. You can find him at The ARTree booth at every First Thursday Art Walk encouraging attendees to complete an art activity.
